REMEMBER THE THING WHERE SOMETIMES I’M ON THE RADIO?
WELL. I AM NOW.
With my fabulous best friends and fellow cat ladies.
SO.
LISTEN.
Cause we’re awesome.
yup. go now.
WHAT’S THAT YOU SAY?
FIFTY HOUR STARTS IN FIVE HOURS?
BUT I CAN STILL DONATE TO THE ITHACA HEALTH ALLIANCE AT www.50hours.org?
AND I CAN TUNE IN AT www.vicradio.org?
OR CALL AND MAKE A REQUEST AT 607-274-1059?
AND I CAN GET IN ON THE FUN BY ATTENDING VIC’S SCAVENGER HUNT, BENEFIT CONCERT AND 42 HOUR FILM FESTIVAL?
…i knew that.
So, um, sometimes I’m on the radio.
Like now.
And at 5am Saturday.
And 1pm Sunday.
You can still donate to our marathon that I posted about a while back. All of the money goes to a really great cause.
Or just listen in any time after 4pm (EST) tomorrow and hear two DJs who are going to be awake for 50 straight hours.
Hey followers,
I haven’t been posting much personal stuff lately, so here’s something pretty important to me. I DJ for and work at my school’s online radio station, which you probably know if you pay any attention to me at all. Every year the station holds a 50 Hour Marathon, which raises money for a different charity each year. Now, that’s essentially the two things that mean the most to me combined in one: music and charity. This year, it’s taking place on April 20th, starting at 4pm, and going into Sunday April 22nd. (So we’re getting close!)
This year, our charity is a local one, which might make it mean less to you or to me who aren’t from here, but it’s an important one. The Ithaca Health Alliance is an organization dedicated to bringing healthcare to those who need it at an affordable rate. Now, THAT is something that’s important to almost everyone, I’d say.
50 Hour works like this:
- Two DJs stay up for 50 straight hours, so they’re on air all the time.
- We broadcast our online station over our sister station (91.7 WICB — if you’re anywhere near Ithaca) and our television station (ICTV) — so, our music goes out all over the place.
- Each hour is sponsored by a local business, student organization, individuals or anyone who hopes to get involved, and we set a monetary goal to donate to the IHA.
- We spend that weekend sending our DJs around Ithaca to visit our sponsors and visit events.
Now, here’s where my plea comes in.
I know no one wants to give up their money to something they’re not a part of. I know that if I saw this post, I wouldn’t even consider it, and that’s fine with me. If you are interested in donating, our website is www.50hours.org; you can sponsor an hour for forty dollars, a half hour for 30 or donate any amount you feel comfortable with, or nothing at all. All I’m asking is if you have a chance, please tweet, tumbl, whatever you want about VIC Radio’s 50 Hour Marathon so that someone who MIGHT be interested in donating or helping out can have the opportunity.
Again, the marathon will be taking place from April 20th to April 22nd. Our station is VIC Radio and you can feel free to check out our marathon website and see our DJs, our events, and maybe, if you want, donate!
So, Fever Fever stopped by yesterday! They were our artist of the week last week, from Ohio, not to be confused with the the UK band Fever Fever. (We discussed this — iTunes proves these guys had the name first!) They came and hung out in the studio, which was kind of a tight fit with instruments and all, and played a live set and chatted and answered our silly questions. If you haven’t been listening to Fever Fever before, you should definitely start because they are pretty chill guys, some excellent jamz (yep, jamz with a z because there’s a banjo involved) and we play them on VIC!
If you were wondering:
- Their “guilty pleasure” is Madonna, though they’re not really guilty about it.
- They dig listening to Bon Jovi when they’re driving around on tour. (Because they’re always halfway somewhere.)
- Wes and Drew met on a basketball team in high school; their coach didn’t like them, and they didn’t like him, so they started a band. (Bam.)
If you missed the live in-studio with Fever Fever yesterday, clips should be going up on vicradio.org in the next couple of days, so keep a look-out for that!
If you’re looking to learn more about Fever Fever, which you should be because they’re swell, you can check them out on twitter, @feverfever (not @feverfeverband) or on facebook or on their website!
best friends
HEY. I meant to post this song earlier, but LOOK. ARTIST OF THE WEEK.
Shearwater with Immaculate!
AND, additionally, RIGHT NOW on vicradio you can tune into the new music show with me and DJeremy! In the next hour, you’ll hear cool jamz from a whole load of cool artists like Brite Futures, fun., the Barr Brothers, and Nada Surf.
AND, if you stay tuned, we’ll be playing Shearwater’s new album all the way through! And.. it’s pretty excellent. So have no fear.
{I’m pretty sure I’m funny.
Every Ithacan should be at this event, just for shits and giggles.

If you weren’t having enough fun with our new music yet, HERE’S SOME MORE. Oh yes, even more.
I present to you, one of my favorites from this week, The Jezabels with Endless Summer.
I’d give you some fun facts, but all you really need to know is that this sounds good, we added it, they’re Australian. That is TWO Australian groups we’ve added this week — name me another station that’s done THAT for you! I thought so.
Anyway,
come to Radio Rush Night on Thursday in Park Auditorium at 7pm and you’ll be able to tell your friends that YOU brought two cool new Australian bands into their lives. And you’ll officially be the coolest you can be.
that VIC blogger’s crazy.
CRAZY GOOD.

OGIE WANTS YOU ALL TO KNOW THAT VIC IS BACK ON MONDAY AT 10AM EST.
And, even though Ogie wants you to know it, I think you should all really care. There WILL be new music this week, and there’ll be real DJs and EVERYTHING. So, you can jump into second semester stuff (alliteration, what up?) with AWESOME music and AWESOME DJs bringing you aforementioned AWESOME music.
Basically:
Rejoice, Ithaca (AND THE REST OF THE WORLD — streaming worldwide and all!), your favorite indie jamz are returning Monday morning!
That dumb VIC blogger probably should’ve put the station link in here…
Make sure to tune into VIC radio, starting at 10am EST, at www.vicradio.org
You can tweet the DJ, too, and suggest songs.
Follow the blog or submit to the blog.
aaaaaand, download our app! for free!
VIC Radio at Applefest — was awesome.
I harped on and on and on about Applefest and all the cool stuff we had going down, and, well, it went down. Dr. Ogie set up our pretty fabulous booth with the sad balloons and we basically decimated our supply of pens and stickers. Even in the rain, that VIC booth has swag.
You probably heard about our fantastic DJ for a Day contest… well. Here it is. LOOK how happy that DJ is. You go, Dan Damage. He held that sign like none other.
I can’t even tell you how many pens and stickers we gave out. “FREE VIC PENS AND STICKERS? NO? YOU SURE? COME ON!” There was dancing and pens and contests and whimsy and, even the cold didn’t wear us persistent DJs down.
Oh, hey Bobby, reppin’ those stickers. And look at that smiling promotions director.
And, finally, your tumblcrew, myself and MiCATla!
Thanks to anyone who came out and especially to those of you who signed up for DJ for a day and promoted and just came and said hi!
VIC at Applefest just got a little more awesome.
VIC will be holding, along with our other fantastic activities to span the three apple-filled and delicious days of Applefest, a DJ For A Day Drawing! (check that alliteration, yo.) For all three days of Applefest there will be a sign-up sheet for anyone, ANYONE, to put their name down for a chance to be on air! You can pick the time you want to come in and you’ll get to sit in the studio and go on air and basically be the coolest kid on the block. All you have to do is sign your name and wait until the end of the weekend to see if you won! I think it’s a pretty sweet deal.
While that’ll be going on all weekend (along with giveaways of all things VIC, but really mostly pens), we’ve also got some day-specific events going on! I kind of threw them all out there yesterday, but in case you wanted to know more, which you obviously did, I’ll tell you when everything’ll be going down!
On Friday, we’ll have the Total Distortion Arm Wrestling Contest, “BRUTAL contest which our very own Lane Train will be running for a chance to win the one and only remaining Total Distortion shirt circa 1998.” Come by around 5pm and see if you can win it!
All day, there’ll be DJs hanging out in the booth maybe playing Apples to Apples, chatting up a storm,
trying to get you to listen to us, giving you free things, singing, dancing, and being merry; it’ll be grand. (This is pretty much a weekend-long deal…)Saturday, we’ll have all the merriness along with:
- QUIZ SHOW LIVE! From 12 to 2pm, VIC’s Adrock and TJ the DJ will be hosting their weekly quiz show directly from Applefest! So if you’re at Applefest, you can see it for real and not on a webcam! And if you’re at home, you can HEAR it from Applefest, so it’ll obviously be more exciting.
- Giveaways? YES. GIVEAWAYS. From 3 to 4pm, C-Law will be giving out FREE CDs and telling you about his show. BUT FREE CDs.
- There’s more?
- Yes!
- Da Club Dance-off, from 5:30 to 6:30. I hear it’s going to be “the swaggiest event that’ll be occurring all weekend.” So, um, obviously you’ll want to be there? But also, never say no to a dance-off. Never.
Of course, Saturday isn’t the last day of the weekend. You’re probably thinking, WHAT MORE COULD VIC DO FOR ME AT APPLEFEST? well, I’ll tell you.
On SUNDAY, at 2pm, you can win stuff just for sticking your head into a large bucket of water. Well, I mean, and getting apples. But actually, just come bob for apples at VIC and you could maybe kind of sort of win a SAINT MOTEL t-shirt! band swag. always fun. And VIC. Also always fun.
In summary, make sure you spend a lot of time at the VIC booth this weekend! (We’ll be located “in the chess area.” But, really, just follow the trail of awesome.
Who runs that awesome VIC blog? Oh, wait, it’s me.
Lighthouse - The Mighty Sequoyah
The Mighty Sequoyah is VIC’s artist of the week!
According to their facebook, they’re a folk rock band from Utah and their name is actually derived from Cherokee. They released their album, ‘Relative,’ in June of this year (2011, for those who don’t remember), and you can purchase it from bandcamp!
Fun fact: Sometimes, just for kicks, they play their acoustic sets as “The Weak Sequoyah.” (GET IT?)
99 Problems - Hugo
This song was added and played a bunch last week, but come on, it’s totally still catchy this week.
And since I just pumped up how cool this blog was going to be, I figured I’d back that up with, you know, a song.
